Timeline for Unit 3A - factoring and solving quadratic equations:
9/14 - Greatest Common Factor 9/15 - Factor by grouping 9/16 - Factor by ac method (when a=1) and solve 9/19 - Factoring difference of squares and solve 9/20 - Factor by ac method (when a does not equal 1) and solve 9/21 - Factor by ac method (when a does not equal 1) and solve 9/22 - Review for Unit 3A test 9/23 - Unit 3A test Today we covered proportions and related them to similar figures. We took guided notes from the powerpoint. We determined if polygons were similar given the lengths of sides. Given polygons that are similar, we solved for a missing side by setting up a proportion. Tomorrow we will discuss the different ways to prove triangles are similar.
Today we reviewed for the Unit 2 test tomorrow. We completed all of the problems in class. If you missed any of the answers, the answer key is below. If you scored below a 75 on the Unit 1 test, you were given the USATestPrep information for grade repair which is due October 3rd. No late assignments will be accepted for grade repair. Yesterday we took notes on properties of quadrilaterals. We organized the information about them in categories: sides, angles, diagonals and reflective symmetry. We then worked on classwork to identify quadrilaterals and determine the angles in parallelograms.
Today we continued practicing solving a systems of equations using elimination. Remember that the key to solving a system of equations by elimination is that you need the same number but with opposite signs in front of either your x or y. If you don't have the same number, figure out the least common multiple between the two numbers. Your homework is to complete any three problems #1 - 12 from the worksheet below. Study for your quiz on triangle congruency, proofs and vocabulary from this unit. We will review during the beginning of class tomorrow and then will take the quiz. If you want extra practice, go to the website ixl.com & under the 10th grade/Geometry tab, practice K.1 through K.8 in the Congruent Triangles section.
